Acca Mutual Recognition Agreements

The ACCA qualification is recognised by all EU Member States under the Mutual Recognition Directive. This recognition extends to the States of the European Economic Area and Switzerland. For example, an ACCA holder could be an accountant in all Member States of the European Union, the European Economic Area and Switzerland and could qualify as an ACCA or Chartered Certified Accountant. Access to local professional qualifications requires a separate test. An MRA is a mutual recognition agreement that allows qualified members of both institutions to become members of the other body and enjoy the benefits that both denominations can offer. It also means offering members greater international recognition and mobility. The MRA does not apply to students, individuals who obtained their ACCA through another MRA, or ACCA members who do not have a post-graduate license. ACCA announced the establishment of a mutual recognition agreement with the Certified General Accountant (CGA Canada), which will come into effect on January 1, 2007; 2011 extended for an additional 5 years until December 2017. [44] Beginning in 2006[Updated], the Canadian Chartered Accounts Institute (CICA), Global Education Services and the Odette School of Business at the University of Windsor stated that the assessment recognized the ACCA as the Canadian equivalent of a four-year bachelor`s degree in accounting.

The Canadian establishment of the ACCA aims to obtain recognition for audit purposes in the Province of Ontario, in accordance with the provincial Public Accountancy Act, 2004. This MRA reinforces the excellent relationship between our two bodies and has already offered many qualified members of each association a way to become members of the other body and enjoy the benefits of both. This includes increasing international recognition and improving professional mobility. Each of them is committed to promoting the overall mobility of accountants and will continue to have pathways to their respective names for internationally trained professional accountants. We will continue to keep all members informed of the status of our reciprocity agreements. A list of all current mutual agreements regarding CPA Canada is available HERE and for ACCA HERE.
